Cleanse Your Crystals With These Fun Alternate Ideas
How do you cleanse and clear the energies from crystals you’ve just bought or worked with? Do you follow standard methods taught and practiced in crystal healing and energy work?
If you’re new to crystal healing or energy work, feel free to check out this recent blog where I explored various perspectives on crystal cleansing that are practiced today.
With this blog article, I’d like you to challenge what you believe in and what you practice. Always expand your perspectives by trying new things and testing out methods of working with your crystals. You may discover new things that you may start to resonate with.
Here are 3 Ideas to Alternatively Cleanse and Clear the Funk Off Your Crystals:
1) Cleanse Your Crystals with a Crystal Mist Gem Bath
For those of you that don’t like the smell of sage or the smoke that occurs from smudging sage, cedar, sweetgrass or palo santo, I discovered a fun aromatic way to cleanse your crystals! Pamper your precious crystals with a mist bath!
I recently purchased an essential oil diffuser and have been giving my crystals a refreshing aromatic mist bath with Himalayan Cedarwood or Sage essential oil. I really love the scent of cedar and some say that smudging with cedar is the proper plant to use for repelling ad purifying negative energies, while sage “blesses and welcomes” existing energies in a space. Cedar is also highly known for his beneficial healing properties.
The diffuser I use works by creating a fine mist using sonic vibrations. This is on par with me because the water is charged with high frequencies from the sound waves and the plant oil energies. Crystal healing and energy work is all about balancing frequencies and vibrational healing so this method vibes with me.
So here’s the steps I take for this process:
1)
I fill up my diffuser with water that has been etherically infused with cleansing crystals, like black tourmaline. You can also prep the water you will use (about a 1/2 cup depending on your diffuser) by leaving a black tourmaline crystal inside or around a jar/bowl of water for a few hours, under the full moon or under the sun around noon. If you feel called to use a different cleansing type crystal, here are a few I recommend: smoky quartz, shungite, black obsidian, black kyanite, amethyst.
2)
Then I add 4 drops of Himalayan Cedarwood essential oil into the water. I like using this kind of oil because it’s known to have super potent healing properties and attracts good energies. If you want to do a blend, you could split the ratio of drops used and add sage or palo santo essential oils too to make a powerful blend.
3)
Before putting the lid on, set a cleansing, purifying and healing intention into the water and oil. Ask that this blend energetically work to help you cleanse any unwanted energies from your crystals. Setting this intention with emotion from your heart will help boost the water’s properties. If you want to know more about the healing properties of water, read this. If you practice Reiki, feel free to energetically boost the water and oil as well.
4)
Open a window. Then turn the diffuser on to your setting of choice.
5)
Grab the crystals you want to cleanse. Take one and hold it with your dominant hand. Hold the crystal over the rising mist for a few seconds. You can say out loud or mentally say something along the lines of “I clear any unwanted energies from this crystal and transmute it into positive energy for the highest good.”
6)
Repeat for each crystal until you’re done.
I really like this new method I’ve been doing because the diffuser is also working to clear the energy from your space with the properties of the healing oils and the intentionally boosted water molecules going into the air.
Plus, the room smells really good after instead of being too smoky from smudging!
2) Cleanse Your Crystals at the Beach!
Being by the ocean or flowing body of water is scientifically known to have a higher volume of negative ions (basically, the good particles out there that are good for you to release stress and provide healing!).
This cleansing technique is super easy to try if you live by a beach or if you happen to visit one:
1) Sit close to the water, but not directly in the path of the waves.
2) Take your crystals and lay them out on a beach blanket or directly on the sand. Having the crystals touch the ground has the same grounding and earthing effects that work on us! You can read more about that here.
3) Hopefully, if it’s a sunny day, having your crystals out will also help them recharge. If you have any crystals prone to fading (like rose quartz or amethyst) limit their sun bathing time.
4) Let your crystals lay out for a bit. It doesn’t have to be too long. Use your best judgement. While the crystals are enjoying their beach time, you are also getting grounded and being bathed in pranic energies. So it’s a win-win! Just don’t stay out too long so you don’t get sun burnt!
5) So in essence you have a combination of the negative ion cleansing, the grounding effects and the sun charging going on.
6) Lastly, once you feel the crystals are “good”, (intuitively feel this as well), you may want to give them a quick bath in the water by the waves.
Ok, first off! – Note of Caution – This is the easiest way to lose your crystals by the waves sucking them into the water. I would only do this if you have a mesh bag or a big piece that’s easy to hold tightly or if you have the firm grip of a robot. Just quickly run the crystal through the water and remove it. No need to get fancy and take too long with this. No one wants to lose their crystals!
Plus, be careful which crystal you put into the water (especially if it’s salt water). If your type of crystal is not meant to be in water or around salt water don’t do it. You’ll regret it and ruin your crystal! I’ve personally tried this with quartz based crystals only and did it quickly, then dried the crystal asap. Make sure you attempt to check the mohs hardness of your crystals before trying this.
3) Cleanse Your Crystals with a Crystal Rock Concert
I may have mentioned this before, but you can easily cleanse your crystals with sound. LOUD sound. Some say you can use a crystal sound bowl, tingsha bells, tibetan sound bowl, tuning fork, etc. But let’s say you don’t have those things. Or you don’t feel like spending money on those things. That’s totally ok!
Use the resources you have. Sound is just a frequency waveform that will pass through a crystal to help bring it back into its dominant oscillatory rate (aka its tip top shape).
Here are some ideas where you can use sound to cleanse and clear your crystals:
1)
If you have a stereo system at home, hook it up to your favorite Pandora station or play music that makes you happy. Simply place the crystals in front of the speaker and pump up the volume. Let the music play for 5-10 minutes or however long you feel is right. If you’re doing this at home or in an indoor space, make sure a window is open. If the music you play makes you dance, feel free to dance and send positive vibes into your crystal for cleansing intention. If you’re more into mellow tunes or classical music, that is fine too!
2)
Take the crystals you want cleansed and place them in pouch or carrying case of your choice. Go to your car and place the crystals safely on a seat or somewhere on the floor mat where it won’t roll around too much. Take a drive with the windows down and play some music you like really loud. Better yet, drive to your favorite place or look out point so you’re in a happy mood. I like to drive by the coast to get the ocean air flowing in. If you have a convertible, drive top down to get the wind blowing out the funk.
3)
Ok, this may not apply to everyone. But if you like to go out dancing, the music in the clubs is LOUD! Crystal cleansing loud! I’ve tried this method out and brought a few crystals in a pouch and put it in my cross body bag. Then I hit the dance floor and let the frequencies do their thing.
Here’s the thing with this method… make sure you’re in a place that feels good to you, plays music you like and has good energy. If it’s a grimy, bad energy vibe type club. This might not work in your favor, but the crystals may be working instead to protect your aura, give you energy etc. instead of being cleansed. It might pick up energies as well… so with that said, use method #2 above to cleanse again on the way home!
Perhaps in an open air music festival under the sunshine, you can have a better time doing this method.
Lastly, get to know the mohs hardness of the crystals you have in your pouch since they will be technically having a dance party of their own in there. Fluorite scratches easily and other low hardness crystals are not recommended for this method. If you have quartz or other crystals with the same moh’s hardness (like 7 and up), I’d say go for it! Also, if you have some precious beauties that you don’t want scuffed up, leave those at home and do method #1, #2 or the typical cleansing methods instead.
4)
I’ve recently chanced upon “singing” sodalite that makes a ringing sound like singing quartz. I will be listing these soon in the shop for use as a crystal coaster, plate or as a singing crystal! Check out this video where singing crystals are used to cleanse crystals!
So overall, those are some alternative methods to cleanse your crystals. I know they may seem out of the norm, but that’s just me! I love finding fun and easy ways to do things! 🙂 I like to question why everyone has to do something the same way. I love to challenge and bend the rules. Cleanse your crystals the way you want to and in a way that resonates with you. Your crystals develop a personal relationship with your energies, so why not choose a method that makes you feel good inside?

I have my crystals in a colander on my altar. I pick and choose my “crystal prescription for the day” and take those with me. When I get home, I place my crystals back and then, put on Tibetan Bowl music on my iPhone, place the phone in the crystals and let it play for awhile. Sometimes, during the day at work, I tend to lay my phone on my bag of crystals and play the music quietly so that they can be cleansed while I’m working or maybe on my lunch break. This way, they are cleansed and it doesn’t feel like a chore.
Thank you for sharing your own experiences with your crystals! Love your efficient and easy methods! 🙂
