NASA Releases Largest Photo Ever and it Features Our Closest Neighbor – Andromeda!
Did you know that the largest photo ever taken thus far was just taken recently? It’s a whopping 1.5 billion pixels and this photo’s size is 4.3 GB! That’s more than the standard memory that comes inside a Macbook Air!
This past January 5, 2015, NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope released their paparazzi composition shot of our amazing neighboring galaxy, Andromeda! Can you believe our closest galactic neighbor is only a little more than 40,000 light years away?! The image NASA shared was a photo collage comprising of shots taken by four hundred and eleven Hubble images. And the crazy thing is, the photo they released isn’t even the entire galaxy! It’s just a segment of the giant behemoth! There are over 100 million star selfies in the shared photo collage! Just imagine each star having their own selfie posted on Instagram! Andromeda is a total rock star wouldn’t you say?
Check out this vid below of a fly-through that YouTuber, daveachuk created! Gaze into the stars and ease your focus to see if you “see” anything special. Watching this vast amount of stars almost feels meditative.
I can’t help but think of Coldplay’s song, “Yellow” and the lyrics:
“Look at the stars, look how they shine for you…. And they were all yellow!“.
This photo release can make you realize how tiny you and your problems are compared to the whole grand scheme of things in the Universe! Totally puts things into perspective.
I even shared a link below of the overall photo for your perusing pleasure. Enjoy!
