Here’s what to love about Tugtupite:

  • The pink color can vary from light cotton candy pink to a vibrant berry pink color.
  • Gem quality Tugtupite is mined in Kvanefjeld, near the town of Narsaq, Greenland. Lower quality locatities of this stone are from Mt. Sainte Hilaire, Canada and the Kola Peninsula, Russia.
  • With a Mohs hardness of 4, this unique stone exhibits fluorescence.  It turns bright neon red under short UV light and a fluorescent pink under long wave UV.
  • Possesses a unique phenomena called Tenebresence. Color vibrancy intensifies in sunlight or heat. In darkness it fades gradually back to a lighter pink.
  • Like Nuummite, which is also from Greenland, the availability of these crystals is rarer than common crystals because of the crystal’s location and the difficulty in obtaining them in cold and icy terrain.
