How to Include Crystal Power in Your Beauty Routine
Did you know that minerals and crystals exist in a lot of the beauty products you may be already using? The aesthetic and energetic power of crystals and minerals have been known and used for thousands of years by ancient civilizations like the Egyptians and the Chinese.
Instead of using harmful petrochemical, SLS (sodium laurel sulfate) and paraben based beauty and health care products, why not consider using natural based products like the ancients did?
Here are a few tips on how to incorporate crystal power in your beauty routine:
Mineral Make-Up
In ancient Egyptian times, it was said that Cleopatra used ground up lapis lazuli powder, mixed it into a paste and applied this mixture as blue eyeshadow. Because lapis lazuli is a known third eye chakra stone, it’s interesting to note the strong connection of applying this mineral close to the third eye for increased intuition and psychic protection. Ancient Egyptians also used kohl (antimony sulfide or lead sulfide) eyeliner.
Even though mineral based make-up was used thousands of years ago, this type of make-up has been revived in the cosmetic spotlight for several years now and touted as the healthier, lighter way to wear make-up. Many brands of mineral make-up use micronized crystals to help provide coverage by reflecting light. Most mineral make-up foundations today consist of titanium dioxide, bismuth oxchloride and mica.
Currently, my favorite mineral based foundation powder is the Tarte Amazonian Clay Airbrush Foundation. The ingredients in this foundation are what sparked me to try it out a few months ago.
Listen to these lovely ingredients Crystal Rockers!:
Rose Quartz – Egyptians believed rose quartz had anti-aging properties. Stories have been told that the Goddess Isis would gather tumbled stones of rose quartz by the Nile river where she used these as facial massage stones to keep the complexion clear and prevent wrinkles. Rose quartz is also the stone of empowering love for oneself and for others, and for releasing stress.
Ruby powder – Ruby’s properties include assistance with weight regulation, courage, enthusiasm and passion.
Mica – The ingredient mica can be found in many crystal healing stones like lepidolite and aventurine. Intuitives have even mentioned that Mica is known to reverse the aging process.
Smithsonite – Healing properties include increasing vitality, improving intuition, relieving stress and anxiety, and boosting the health of veins, the immune system and sinuses.
Tourmaline – This crystal has properties that help with detoxing, boosting confidence, balancing mental stress and helping to remove fear, negativity, victim mentality and worrying about what others think.
Ultramarines – (Contains lazurite which is a major component in Lapis Lazuli.) Healing benefits include mental endurance, creativity, helps with depression and provides healing benefits for the throat, thyroid and thymus glands.
Sea Salt – Benefits include cleansing of harmful metal toxins stored in the skin and tissues. Purifies your energy field and remineralizes your skin.
On the days I have to apply make-up, I get excited because I get to bathe my skin with these crystal healing powders! The powder gives light airy coverage and I don’t break out or have any averse reactions when wearing this make-up. You should definitely give it a try!
Silica Gel
Earlier this week, I recently started using Hubner Silica Gel as a daily supplement to my green smoothies. This silica gel is simply crushed quartz crystal with purified water that helps to remineralize the body. Our bodies consist of minerals and water, and biological studies have shown that we have a crystalline structure within our cellular makeup.
The use of silica gel is also popular amongst those in the hair, beauty and make-up forums to help improve hair growth, skin texture and improve brittle nails. I will test out my silica gel intake this month and keep you posted on my results!
Crystal Product Infusions
Lastly, you can include crystal healing powers in your every day products by infusing them with crystal energy. I personally love to drop a tumbled stone of rose quartz in my organic almond oil. I also add a few drops of jasmine or blue lotus essential oil to the bottle to add additional healing properties, as well as an amazing floral scent. Since rose quartz is the top stone for skin care and anti-aging properties, I personally like this crystal for beauty product infusion. Plus, quartz has a high mohs hardness of 7 and no toxic elements, so I don’t have to worry about anything harmful dissolving in my product.
Try adding a rose quartz tumbled stone in your body oils, shampoo, moisturizers and body sprays. Products that are more fluid are easier to manage and clean-up, while creamier and thicker type products might be a bit messy. Use your best judgement on what works best for you.
