Eleven Tears Memorial Crystal in NYC

In New York City, at Ground Zero in the American Express Tower, hangs a giant quartz crystal memorial honoring eleven American Express employees who’s lives were lost during the September 11, 2001 tragedy.

The amazing artistry of this memorial sculpture was designed by architect, Ken Smith, and cut by the inspirational crystal artist, Lawrence Stoller. They basically took an 1100 pound six sided quartz crystal and transformed it into an eleven sided hendecahedron (now that’s a shape you don’t hear every day!).

This giant quartz crystal is suspended from thin cables over an eleven sided granite water pool. Symbolic tear drops fall from the ceiling of the building in different sectors of the pool surrounding the crystal.

I think this memorial is a touching contribution to those who passed away during 9/11. The quartz crystal holds significance because it has properties of being a master healer crystal and it is such a fitting choice for this memorial. I could just imagine the energy coming from that crystal and the vibration of the water from the pool beneath it! Have you visited this memorial before? If not, check out Lawrence Stoller’s video below to see a sneak peak at the making of this crystal memorial.
